FA Surf Contest #1 - Westward

There was no shortage of wind or surf at the contest yesterday. In the morning, there were fun peaks all over the beach. The tide was right and the surf was pumping. Drainers had solid 5-6' surf and proved very interesting when the groms paddled out. Solid West wind bump from Friday lingering in the lineup definitely helped cross us the South swell and make for some interesting competition. The West wind came up again around 10am strengthening to 20kts by noon. All of the tents on the beach took flight shorlty after. Plenlty of EZ-up casualties filled the rubbish bins but the competition went on (nice job John for saving the the Sicky tent). Thanks of all of the competitors for coming out and the sponsors for making this another fun event.

Malibu's Fenced Inn!!!!!!!!!!!!

For months now people have been asking us what happened to the Malibu Inn (aka the "Fenced Inn" for those of you that have driven past it since early January 2009). The Malibu Inn was Sicky's hometown experience for those of us that frequented the place, enjoyed getting Sicky, talking story, listening to local tunes, and having a good time. The SDP Tuesday Nights were filled with beautiful women, good DJs, stiff drinks and more. No one will forget the back to school nights we had at the inn in 2006, 2007, and 2008.
However, as we understand it, the place was being mismanaged for a while, didn't have sufficient funds, and was ran into the ground. We were all bummed to hear of the late Mitchell Stewart's (owner of the Malibu Inn during the SDP parties/concerts) death in 2008 and it was downhill for the venue from there. It started when the managers got the boot and ended with the place going virtually bankrupt in late 2008 and being placed on the auction block. The place was up for auction and purchased for about $5million. There was nothing we could do about it. The last show we had scheduled there on January 16th 2009 never even happened. And shit, our lights are still locked up in the place...
The bummer is we having been trying to contact the new owners and have been bared from doing any one-off parties. They want to rent the shit box out for $50,000, yes i said $50K per month on a 10 year lease. I think they are nuts but some rich dumb ass may one day re-open the place but we do not see that happening anytime soon.
I encourage you to write a little something on here about your best night at the Malibu Inn between Dec. 2005 and Jan. 2009.

As you may know, Malibu's youth is filled with skateboarders. There are 2 shops that carry skateboarding equipment, and 2 small skate parks. 1 small half pipe at Malibu High, and the Papa Jacks skate park in Cross Creek. Papa Jacks skate park is in danger due to development, and the youth of Malibu is demanding a replacement. However, we need your help. We want a new area to build a legitimate full blown cement skatepark that will cater to all levels of skateboarding, as well as other activities such as BMX and Rollerblading. The park will be built out of private funds from donations within the community and will not take away from any funding for any other local activities or projects.

Without this skatepark, it will send many kids to skate other areas in Malibu where it is illegal to skate, such as Banks, Schools, and businesses, further creating more strife and altercations between skateboarders and communities. Private property issues are only getting stricter.

By signing the petition below, I state that I am in support of building a new skatepark, keeping the local skateboarders off private property in Malibu, and away from unproductive extracurricular activities.

Please, with your time, we can get a park built soon, and continue to entertain the youth of Malibu in a positive way.
